HERE ON THE WEST COAST (OR WET COAST..) WE MAKE THE MOST OUT OF OUR SHORT SUMMER SEASON. WHETHER IT BE HIKING, FISHING, OR JUST SOAKING UP THE WARM WEATHER WHILE BBQING, WE KNOW HOW TO ENJOY THE SUN WHILE IT LASTS. IF YOU’RE LOOKING TO EXTEND THE AL FRESCO WAY OF LIFE TO YOUR OWN HOME THIS SUMMER, THEN READ OUR TIPS BELOW!
Shelter
Whether you live in the desert or in a rain forest, shelter in your outdoor living space is essential. It creates shade from the hot sun and cover during Summer showers. This can be achieved in many ways, including a pergola, canopy, cantilever upper deck, or greenery.
Dining Area
A sure way to utilize your outdoor living space is to create a designated cooking and eating area. This is perfect for entertaining and just everyday meals in the Summer. Keeping the BBQ and kitchen close to the dining area will ensure everyone can socialize while dinner is being made. We love the idea of taking it a step further and opening up a drive through style window for easy kitchen access and additional seating. We guarantee you won’t be eating another meal inside all summer long.
Privacy
One of the best parts about having your own outdoor living area is the privacy! A solution we’re loving are privacy screens and walls. These can be partially open like the example above, or a solid wall. Let bamboo or ivy grow up it for even more shade and greenery. If you live in a townhome, or your yard is close to your neighbours’, then this is an ideal solution. Just check with your strata first if you’re a part of one.
Warmth
When the sun goes down but you want to stay out in your new oasis, add warmth! Adding a fireplace or pit to your yard invites guests to stay longer and makes your yard cozy and bright at any time of the day. You can find reasonably priced pits at places like Home Depot and Costco, or you can consider adding one as an addition to your home’s exterior. This is a great investment as it adds huge value to your home and no need to remember to fill your propane tank! Just hook up a gas line to the fire place or choose a wood burning one instead.
What are your favourite parts about your outdoor space? With summer officially here, we hope your space is ready for warm long nights and lots of BBQ’s with friends!
